Fishing For Amberjack in Key West

A typical
Key West Amberjack weighing between 40 - 50 lbs. The look on
the fishes face says it all, he's seriously upset at being
hugged !. He was much happier a few moments later when he was
returned to the ocean to fight another day.
The amberjack is an obliging, hard fighting fish that can be
caught in a number of areas of Key West. They are the Mike
Tyson of the fish world, they fight dirty and never know when
to give up. You can get them up from the bottom in 200 ft of
water only for them to dive right back down to the bottom
again. They're a great looking fish, extremely streamlined and
seemingly solid muscle.
Some of the deep water marks on the Atlantic side of Key
West, such as the submarine, are often absolutely covered with
amberjack. Every drop to the bottom with a suitable lure will
result in a bite and a lung bursting battle as you bring the
fish to the surface. They're normally returned alive after a
swift photograph of the captor hugging his or her prize.
