Inshore Fishing in Key West

The calm
inshore waters around Key West are host to a huge number of
sharks. When it's a bit too "lumpy" out on the ocean, shark
fishing is a great substitute.
Inshore fishing around Key West can often mean tarpon
fishing and for sure the tarpon fishing in Key West is a huge
attraction and possibly the best in the world, but there
are plenty more species to target if the "Silver King" is not
in a cooperative mood.

The
Tarpon is known as the "Silver King"...I wonder why ?. Key West
has some of the best tarpon fishing in the world and there's
every chance of you hooking several of them on a single trip.
Incidentally, this little fella weighed around 100 lbs and
fought for 50 minutes, they really are a great sport
fish.
During the summer months the permit fishing around Key West
harbor can be simply awesome, and there are always several
different species of shark to target in and around the harbor
and also around the calm waters of the Marquesas Islands, just
a short ride out to the west.
Other species that regularly turn up in the harbor include
cobia, snapper, small grouper and the occasional kingfish.

Huge
cruise ships such as this one are regular visitors to Key West.
Hook a tarpon in the harbor and there's an excellent chance
that it will tow you around in front of the cruise ships,
giving you an instant audience for your battle with the "Silver
King". Jumps from the tarpon are greeted with rounds of
applause from the audience on the liner, it's a lot of
fun.
With our dock being only a couple of minutes from the
harbor, you will be fishing before you know it.
